Workers across the country, including DSA members, are standing up and fighting for dignity, safety, and respect in the workplace. Let’s get ready to show up and show out in 2023! Whether your chapter is just getting started with forming a labor working group or your members have been organizing for years, we can all use the new year as a time to talk with our comrades about how to hit the ground running in 2023.
Keep in mind that nothing should be done for the workers without the workers. This is an extremely exciting moment in labor history and we all want to support worker organizing efforts. Since we need to build lasting relationships in the labor movement that will grow socialist power, it is essential to be respectful of the wishes of those central to the struggle. Workers are the experts at their job sites and probably already know most of what they need to know about fighting the boss: it’s our job to draw these skills out and support their fights.
Over 340,000 Teamsters at UPS work are gearing up to fight for better pay and treatment on the job when their contract expires on August 1, 2023. If the company doesn’t respond to their demands, they are preparing to take part in the largest strike in American history. Workers need to support each other as we fight for a better world. I’m going to be strike ready for UPS Teamsters if they decide to strike. I pledge to never cross a picket line!
The NLC has created a toolkit that DSA chapters can use to ensure they are #StrikeReady in 2023! The toolkit includes helpful resources and references that you can use to get your chapter involved.
